IV. Product Applications:
Low Molecular Weight Polybutylene (PB) - Applications:
◆ Electrical Insulating Oil Capacitors (PB680, PB950, PB1300)
Polybutylene with molecular weights of 600-700, possessing excellent dielectric properties, is used in various electrical products for impregnating capacitors and cables. Low-molecular-weight polybutylene (300-550 MW) blended with 0.3-0.5% phenolic antioxidants also serves as an excellent electrical insulating oil.
◆ Electrical Materials
PB serves as insulation for various cables, preventing deformation of insulating layers. In capacitors, PB-impregnated units demonstrate significantly superior temperature stability, oxidation resistance, and moisture resistance compared to mineral oil-impregnated capacitors.
◆ Plastic Additives and Modifiers (PB1300, PB2400)
Used in plastics like PE, PS, ABS, PP, etc., to enhance impact resistance, improve tensile properties, and increase UV stability in films.
Polyolefin rubber processing oil, distinguished by its low volatility and non-migratory properties. Suitable for EP, EPDM, butyl rubber, SBS, SEBS, etc.
◆ Wire and Cable Industry (PB450, PB680, PB950, PB1300)
Power Cables: Used as impregnating agents in paper-insulated cables to prevent moisture ingress while imparting excellent electrical properties.
Communication Cables: Special polybutylene-based compounds for longitudinal sealing of telephone lines.
These compounds offer superior oxidation resistance, aging resistance, and consistent performance across a wide temperature range. These additives play a crucial role in preventing water ingress and maintaining signal integrity along the cable length.
◆ Polybutylene for Polymer Modification (PB950, PB1300, PB2400)
Polybutylene can be blended with various high-molecular-weight substances, such as natural rubber and synthetic rubber. When mixed with natural rubber or synthetic rubber (butyl rubber; SBR), it delivers excellent water resistance and high-strength breathability.
Polybutylene can be applied as a coating additive to natural and synthetic rubber surfaces, providing UV protection and heat resistance.
Polybutylene can be incorporated into EVA copolymers, PP, HDPE, LDPE, and LLDPE to enhance their physical strength.
◆ Low-Density Ultra-High-Pressure Compressor Oil (PB950, PB1300, PB2400)
Another key property of polybutylene is its absence of sulfur and other impurities, preventing catalyst poisoning in polymerization processes. Therefore, polybutylene can serve as ultra-high-pressure compressor oil in low-density polyethylene production processes. Low-density polyethylene products are widely used as food packaging materials, necessitating lubricants for ethylene high-pressure compressors that are non-toxic, colorless, and possess excellent lubricity—qualities polybutylene fulfills. Polybutylene can operate continuously under 300 MPa pressure for over 10,000 hours.
