Claytone 40 is a modified montmorillonite suitable for low to medium polarity solvent systems (such as aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and aliphatic-aromatic mixed solvents). It exhibits high gel efficiency, excellent viscosity reproducibility, and thixotropy, with outstanding sag resistance that prevents pigment and filler settling. As an exceptional rheology modifier, Claytone40 finds extensive application in oil-based coatings, colorants, alkyd enamel paints, primers, and epoxy

Instructions for Use
Claytone40 disperses without heating but must be added during the grinding stage. High-shear equipment achieves optimal gelation rates. Adding polar activators such as propylene carbonate, methanol/water (95/5), ethanol/water (95/5), or acetone enhances Claytone40's gel efficiency. The dosage of polar activators is typically 20%-60% of the Claytone40 quantity, with Claytone40 generally comprising 0.2-2% of the total formulation.
