Description
Kristalex 3085 hydrocarbon resin is a water-white transparent, highly color-stable, non-polar, low molecular weight thermoplastic pure monomer resin. This resin exhibits excellent compatibility with various oils, waxes, alkyd resins, plastics, and elastomers, and is soluble in many common organic solvents. It is used in plastic modification, adhesives, coatings, sealants, and caulking compounds. In EVA-based hot-melt adhesives, Kristalex 3085 is compatible with EVA resins containing up to 30% VA content, delivering excellent low-temperature resistance when formulating light-colored adhesives. In adhesives based on styrene block copolymers (SBEBS, SBS, SIS), Kristalex 3085 exhibits preferential compatibility with the terminal styrene block, resulting in lower melt viscosity (enhancing polymer MI value and flowability). It maintains excellent tack and adhesion at room temperature without compromising cohesive strength within the adhesive.

Features
Eastman Kristalex 3085 Pure Monomer Resin features: Excellent color (water-white), superior oxidation stability, and thermal stability. Suitable for enhancing tackiness in block copolymers, EVA, and carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber (SBS) while improving heat resistance and strength.
Compared to conventional petroleum resins, Eastman Kristalex 3085 Pure Monomer Resin offers superior thermal stability and heat resistance. Its low molecular weight ensures excellent compatibility with SBS copolymer systems. It also exhibits synergistic effects when blended with fully hydrogenated petroleum resins. For instance, a 3:7 or 2:8 blend ratio of this product (PMR) with C5 resin enhances system heat resistance, and aging resistance while increasing bond strength. It is typically used in structural adhesives for disposable sanitary products (SBC series).
Application
Applications of Eastman Pure Monomer Resin Kristalex 3085: Pressure-sensitive adhesive series, enhancing flexibility in bookbinding, tensile strength, ink solvent resistance, and improving cure time and setting time. Also used in packaging adhesives and wool fabric bonding.
Specialized resin for TPE compounds (TPE overmolding, TPE wire and cable), also used in the adhesive industry.
Provides benefits including increased strength (cohesion), enhanced tackiness, improved flow properties, and reduced open time.

What are PMRs (Pure Monomer Resins)?
Pure monomer resins are water-white transparent, high-gloss stability, high-heat stability aromatic petroleum resins polymerized from pure aromatic petroleum monomers (such as styrene monomer and α-methylstyrene monomer).
Why use PMRs?
Pure monomer resins exhibit broad compatibility with various polymers, including: SBR, SBC (SEBS, SIS, SBS), acrylic resins, EVA, and neoprene rubber. Therefore, PMRs can be used in diverse formulations—from adhesives and sealants to wax products, from coatings to plastic and rubber blends. In adhesive applications, for instance, pure monomer resins can modify styrene end-groups in SBCs to balance viscosity, adhesion, and heat resistance.
In plastic modification systems (TPE Compounding), pure monomer resins improve processability (i.e., flowability) and enhance mechanical properties (i.e., tensile strength and hardness) and viscoelasticity. PMRs migrate into the PS phase of SEBS, preferentially bonding with PS to form physical crosslinks. This reinforces the styrene phase, increasing PS content within SEBS and thereby boosting hardness.
